In almost exactly three years of home ownership, my husband and I (and my father-in law) have conquered our fair share of home improvement projects as we’ve worked to turn our house into a home. Three years ago, before we closed, the first item on our to-do list was painting the exterior of our home. I absolutely HATED the color of the house when we bought it. The few of you who have seen my house may be wondering why we would select the ugly light green color featured on the bottom half of our house. Well, we didn’t. We just never crossed item #1 off our list. Despite the fact that I still cringe when neighbors refer to my home as “the green house on the corner,” we still haven’t painted the house. Like most homeowners, we learned that when you live in the house your priorities shift. We’ve focused most of our efforts on the interior and painting the house has taken a back seat. Now, we are debating whether to paint the house or wait until we eventually replace our porch. In the meantime, we’ve done some things to spruce up the exterior and increase our curb appeal. Our efforts have made me feel better, at least!
We’ve been chipping away at the exterior and have done many small things including changing out the house numbers, adding an American flag, creating a small flower bed, and adding hanging plants (which we switch out seasonally). Most recently, we switched out an old Adirondack chair and a bench that previous owners had left for two white porch rocking chairs.
This final detail has really pulled the front of the house together for me. Now, when I approach our house I barely notice that green paint!
I think the porch and the front of the house in general, looks so inviting and summery! I want to stroll right up and sit in the rocking chair. I mean, after being invited to, of course. ;) And I think the hanging baskets of flowers are perfect – love the pop of purple! Great job, Caitlin!
